I have a small one running in my backyard (made the filter out of a 5 gallon bucket, got a 210 gallon per minute pond pump, and put those into a 70 gallon stock tank. Growing some Bell Peppers in gravel).
My only suggestion is to use something lightweight for the substrate / bedding material. It is really a pain, (Literally) to move things around if you are using gravel. It is really heavy...
