Anybody do this since pondmeisters can generate a large quantity of fish scraps? I had a discussion with a few gardening/farming neighbors that have compost piles and compost fish scraps. They found out I started tossing my culled LMB into the woods when they are to small/skinny to filet. Asked why I don't compost them in a pile out there. I hope to do a shock survey this year and it would be a great time to cull a lot of stunted LMB, plus get some use from them. 3:1 brown stuff(wood chips and such) to fish seems to be a good mix and I plan on starting some fruit trees on my property that could benefit from the compost. Figured this is kinda sorta off topic so stuck it down here.

I planted four bluegill under each fruit tree I planted last year. Don't know how much it will help but better than nothing

My dad manages our raised garden in front of the house. Once year I had some outdated fish feed that I dumped into the garden while he was in Florida for the winter, thinking it would make great fertilizer. He requested I not do that again as it stunk to high heaven.

Compost it to the west of the neighbor that gives ya a hard time.

Most of the reading I have done about composting suggest that you do not compost meat. Google does have some information about successfully doing it however. The down side of using meat are the odor, having animals find it and digging it u[, and flies laying eggs in the compost and producing lots of maggots. I have planted them with trees successfullly. Don't know if it helped, but nothing dug it up.

I always add my fish heads to the compost heap but my dog thinks they are more effective scattered around the backyard.

Hmmm... that's an idea. Might just make things worse though.

I've been doing it for years. I probably have a compost pile larger than most, but still... I usually have a very large leaf pile that I turn with the loader on my tractor. That is where the majority of fish scraps go.

If I had a small compost bin, I don't think I put them in it, and I would never put them in my worm condo, which is where most of our kitchen vegetable scraps go.

There are times when I will put the fish scraps down near the pond in front of one of my game cameras. I've gotten a lot of interesting critter photos that way.
