when we got done with pond owner wanted a way to pump water from it to his livestock pens. we made a 36" concrete pipe into a manhole it is 8' long we cut a hole 8" off the bottom for the inlet pipe which is 6" and ran it downhill to where when it equalizes with the pond level it will be pulling water from 12' deep. the inlet pipe goes into the manhole at 6' below pond water level and we dont expect this pond to ever get very low due to the volume of the springs.we poured a 8" concrete bottom in the manhole and grouted everything we dont want it leaking so that it will always pull from the 12' depth. we are using a sewer main pump that all you have to do is set it in there with a 90 degree turn about 6' up to tie into water line. this pump doesnt have to be tied in to the inlet pipe it sucks off the bottom and goes. i did this because i'm familiar with this set up and i am definetely open for a better way to do it. i had to build it out in the pond because due to rock we couldnt get 8' deep at shoreline so we moved it out in the pond and formed around it
