We have had so much rain, and on a consistent basis, that we are sitting at full pool at mid July in the midwest. This is only the 3rd (or is it the 4th?) year since we hit full pool on a new pond, but we have always been down at least a foot + by July.

You lucky dog! I'm pumping in 30,000 to 35,000 gallons per day just to keep mine from dropping. If I don't I lose 1" to 1 1/2" of water level per day.

Be careful this weekend. It's supposed to be a hot one, and even worse next week.

We're actually considered to be in a drought. Thunderstorms dropped about 1-1/2 inches of rain in the last week. This time of year, that results in about 3 - 4 inches of rise in the pond. From my viewpoint, we are just about normal, even though the weather prognosticators say no.

The interesting thing is that we got an inch of rain last Friday in a few hours, and my water is now the clearest it has ever been. I sometimes think I've done too good a job of cleaning the water inflow. I've got about 40 inches of visibility, which is very unusual for this time of year. I'm thinking I may have to fertilize.

And Scott -- that is a lot of water to pump each day. I'd be afraid to do that here. I'd be concerned about pumping my well dry.

There's a really good aquafier under ground here. Sandy/gravel/clay bands and all that. The farmers have wells to irrigate their crops, and they're pumping in excess of 200 gpm. I've seen them run 24 hrs a day....

When they turn them on (the closest irrigation tower is within 1/2 mile and the farmer has 5 of them) my pond drops almost 2" per day, and I'll lose up to 4' of water.

Our pond was at full pool when we first arrived there during our trip last month. In fact the pond was more full than I had ever seen it during our 5 years of ownership. By the end of our two week stay the pond had already dropped 6 to 8 inches. DIED's was already down a foot. One hot day (105 degrees) when JWHAP and I were fishing in our boat I swear I could almost feel the boat lowering minute by minute.

what are the energy costs for pumping that many gallons? At some point I will have a well at the pond and might want to top it off, but have no idea the costs (we are on city water where I live now and pay through the nose for water).

It all depends on your local electricity rates. The last time I ran the well for a long period of time into the pond it cost me an extra $100 per month. I'm wondering what this months' electric bill will be with the A/C and well running for long periods of time.

Well, no sooner do I yap about how well the pond level has held up, but the rain machine shuts down and goes on strike. It's 4 months later and I just measured 23" below pool. Not good.

It is great to be "mature" and forget what you've written and read.

Anyway, we got another 1-1/4 inches of rain last weekend. I'm back over full pool.

We went down several feet in August. I "dredged" with my tractor's landscape rake.



My pond went from record clear to pea soup green -- where it still remains. I'm not sure if this is good or bad. It currently has about 12-inches of very green paint-bucket Secchi disc visibility.

My fish still refuse to bite or hit on anything!
