What's the safest way or tool to use to get weeds down from the edge of a pond? I'm not having trouble with mine but a friend has really steep edges to his pond. These aren't little weeds. I think a kick butt weed-eater might have trouble taking these guys down.

How about a kick-butt weed eater with a blade instead of string? I've yet to find weeds that will withstand that combo!

This little tool does a great job on weeds, trees, even pesky rodents and neighbors!

That is definitely an effective method, but you are really limited in usage during high fire-risk season!

Would burning weeds around a pond be a good idea, I've thought about it I have some eroded spots that are almost impossible to weedest without getting wet. I thought about just spraying and burning, would look like he'll for awhile but I think better than 6' tall weeds..

Ballistic PVC management is another matter entirely.

I've heard of guys using a small section of chain on their trimmer head to get through really tough weeds. It's a lot safer and cheaper than blades - these will not cut through your tendons, muscle and bones or through your boots if you have an accident.

I just picked up a new trimmer yesterday for the pond. Got a Stihl FS250. Works great on the really tall stuff. Unfortunately it will still necessitate putting a blade on for some of the thicker brush. Even after the brush is dead from chemical exposure, it's so thick it'll wear down a wire trimmer really fast.

What about a sickle bar pulled behind a tractor that extends out that you could adjust the angle on? If you could adjust it at a downward angle that would be the ticket. Do they make such a thing?

Or would the DR weed and brush mower be an option?

I can relate. I've got some kind of weed that when it dies it's as hard as wood and almost the diameter of a pencil. The weed wacker with a nylon cord is no match for it.

I bought a blade kit off a TV infomercial that is supposed to be adaptable to 99 percent of the weedwackers out there. Wouldn't you know it the weed wacker I have is the 1 percent that it won't work on?

Cecil,that flame thrower is starting to look really good about now. Also, that 1% will get you every time.

That's for sure. Reminds me of polarized electrical plug outlets. Probabilities tell you one should have to turn around the cord you're plugging in only 50 percent of the time. When I go to plug something in I get it wrong the first try 100 percent of the time!

I've thought of using a propane torch on weeds.
