Ok that makes more since, I am not sure we have anything besides Gizzard and Threadfin here so that is why I was curious.

Thanks

Please don't make me gag so early in the day. You reminded me of how my dad used to eat the egg sacks from bullheads, fried.

I have also heard that Crappie Sacks are considered a delicacy.

And BG. Catfish eggs are pretty large, and they tend to "POP" from the steam, splattering hot oil all over the stove.

I have yet to try eggs and not sure I ever will, unless someone happens to make them and have me over, then of course not to be rude I would give them a shot.

Paddlefish certainly taste more like sturgeon than other fish. Young fish are superior for the table but the older fish are great smoked. The caviar is great, in demand, and available at a lower cost than sturgeon caviar. For a while there much of it was exported to Russia, fraudulently repackaged as sturgeon caviar and imported back to the USA at a premium price. It took DNA testing to tell the difference.

Bernie, Paddlefish are deepwater animals so its not too surprising that you haven't seen them. Why not buy a short length of gill net to sample your pond. For full compliance you would probably need a propagation permit to legally possess the gill net and use it in your pond only. Be sure to check with KDFWR first.

Thanks for the advice,Tim.I just thought that with the thermocline relegating the fish to the upper layer of water, sighting these fish would occur.Especially with the drought conditions,I,m assuming the thermocline is even narrower than usual? Just a guess,as I,ve not checked my D.O. lately. I do plan on calling my District fisheries biologist.
