Hi, i mentioned this in the presentation, I hope it is the right section to discuss ...
I have a very small pond in my garden (measurements: length: 3,5 mt, maximum width: 2 mt, depth max 80 cm, middle 60 cm, volume: 3500 liters).
I want to turn a small fish farm for catfish (Ameiurus Melas); you think is feasible?
What do I need to create it?
And how many fish (or kg) can be there inside?

Thanks, interesting link, but I would farming bullheads catfish, because they are smaller and suitable for my small pond (also hope that they can coexist with goldfish).
What do you think?

Bullheads (at least in N. America) get to 12" or so (30 cm). While catfish get larger than that, at 10" to 12" they all taste the same, and I believe you could get the Catfish to grow to that size in a quicker time frame. That is if you were looking at putting them on the dinner table.

I think your setup is rather small, but have no doubts that you could raise some bullheads to table size in it. With good supplemental filtration, you should be able to handle 100 pounds easily. More if you take it seriously. Shoot me a Pm, I might be able to help you size your filtration to what your production goals are. I think that bullheads are an often overlooked aquaculture species. They are east to spawn, and thus are very sustainable for small scale aquaculture. Tasty, and hardy.

You advise me to raise the channel? (I hope I understood correctly), really the channel catfish has the same flavor of bullhead, of the same size? Personally i have eaten only the channel cat, so do not know, but they told me that the bullhead is very good...
Bullheads rarely exceed 20-25 cm, in Italy.

However I would not make a professional aquaculture, I just want to have a pond with bullheads as major species, then I can occasionally eat someone "home-made" but I would say that I will not handle 100 pounds, at most 25-30 ... and possibly with some big goldfish that I have.

Well, lets see what other people here have to say. What species is easiest for you to get?

I have not problems finding the Bullhead; the Channel Cat I should catch them (not sell them).
Now there are just 18 goldfish and many Gambusia in the pond, i believe Gambusia will be eaten by the catfish, but I hope that the goldfish survive ...

I would not put other species, whether goldfish can not coexist with catfish, then i put another alternative species (Carp? Sunfish?).

The goldfish will be fine with the bullheads or catfish. The goldfish are basically colored carp. They have the same feeding and spawning traits. I doubt that you'll have a catfish or bullhead large enough in that small pond to eat one.
