Pond Boss Forums INTRO Questions & Observations Finally had a glimpse of my bass, tonight.

Stocked my pond earlier this year with BG and LMB fingerlings.

Have only seen BG, fatheads, and sticklebacks since the day I stocked the pond. Never found a floater other than some sticklebacks, but wondered where in the world the bass went?

Tonight while feeding I saw two Bass following the BG around. Was a very nice sight.

Mearly a guess, but thought they were maybe 5-7". Stocked them as 2-3".

The BG were maybe 2/3rds of the bass's length, now, instead of near equal at stocking.

Hoping they'll be able to start snacking on some of them BG pretty soon, so I don't get overpopulated.

Not a earth shaking event, but one that was indeed welcome to me.

FWIW, the Bass did not take any of the feed, that I noticed. Just sorta followed the BG around. Also, the BG didn't seem as spooked by them as I thought they might be either????

Just thought I'd share.

If you want the bass to get on the feed, then use the highest protein food you can get. Aquamax with fish oil and mid 40% protein. it definitely makes a difference if the bass get on feed or not.

B.Meister, I'm currently using Aquamax 500. Don't know if that fit's the protein % you're referring too?

FWIW, it took a long while just to get the BG to feed. They weren't interested in the feed for quite a while. Still not swarming like I've see in video's, either, but they are finally feeding.

Hoping the bass might just be alittle pokier in getting on board with the program.

on edit: Actually, just glad to see they're still there.

I am betting those floater sticklebacks died from too high a temps... How hot did your pond get this summer? Most species of stickleback are very temp sensitive.

Glad to hear your bass seemed to have come out good and are growing.

I haven't been doing a real good job monitoring the water temps, but the highest I've seen it this summer has been 78F. I believe that was in July. It hs since dropped and has been low to mid 70's.

Just measured the water temp now and it's 72F. We've had hotter than normal air temps the last 4 days.

That's measured from the dock edge a couple feet down in the water.

While maybe not "earth shattering" definitely an exciting event for you that is shared by many of us here. Congrats!

Hand feeding my fish is one of the great joys of visiting my pond. I have two bass that feed with my BG. they have far outsized the other bass in the pond. It took them a while to get started (the followed the pack of BG).

The two bass now show up every time and hammer the feed with the BG. I don't know how to get other LMB to feed with them. I also use aquamax. I have a small school of 3 inch bass that swim around and I throw a few pellets to them, but they ignore it.
