My boss has a 1/4 acre trout pond and is in the hospitol having surgery. His trout are turning up 3-6 at a time .

The pond is 10' at the deepest part, no vegitation at all. He has a 20' waterfall running 12 hours during the day and recently started oxegentaing ( no startup at all just went directly to 24/7 oxegenation ) . He has 2 duffusors running, 1 @ the 10' hole and 1 near surface at about 4' deep. The aeration has muddied up the water but he continually is adding about 10 gpm of fresh water with an overflow on the opposite end that skims the surface and drains into a lower larger pond.

The trout are facing head face into the bottom of the waterfall which would indicate to me that they are looking for oxygen but I can't imagine with the 2 diffusors going 24/7 there is a lack of oxygen plus the waterfall is adding additional aeration.

The water temp seems pretty mild ( can only test with touch of the hand ) I would guess it's somewhere around 65 degrees at the surface.

I'm not sure if it's possible to over aerate or maybe the muddy waters are irritating the trouts gills ? He has 60 trout stocked and has lost about 12 in the past 3 days. I wold really hate for him to return and find out all of his trout died.

Any help or advice would be greatly apprecited. I have just turned off the aerator to wait and see if a couple hours of it being off will get the trout returning to the deeper waters but I'm not sure if that's the solution or not ?
