I'm late to the party here but I have noticed the difference in the way both feeds are consumed, my perch prefer A-max to GFC, and in point of fact I should have been feeding this all along as the protien levels are more in line for Perch than the other food, may be less of a concern to bluegill care takers though.
As far as the fish oil content, the smell of A-max stays on your hands much longer so I believe the oil thing to be true. I have looked at the oil slicks around a pellet once tossed in the pond too, they are oily!!!
