Hello All, My name is John King and live in Kansas City, Missouri. I have been a Pond Boss lurker for several years, but just now joined as a member. I have had a small pond for a long time, but just recently got a dream lake. Lake is located in southeast Kansas. It was a strip pit area dammed up to create a lake. It is 19 acres in size. About half of it is between 12 and 18 feet deep; the rest is 2 to 5 foot deep. It is usually fairly clear for a Kansas Lake, about 4 to 5-foot visibility. 12 years ago it was stocked with large mouth bass, Blue Gill, Green sunfish, Crappie and Channel Cat. Some grass carp were added to try to control the weeds. The lake has not been managed at all, but seems to be taking care of itself pretty well. I got the lake 2 years ago and have been working on cleaning up around it. We are able to go out and catch bass fairly easy. They are all different sizes, anywhere from 5 up to 7 pounds. They all seem to be healthy; some are a little thinner than what I think they should be. Crappies are tough to catch, usually catch them on Bass lures. The ones we catch are large and healthy. I havent done much fishing for cats, but caught a couple that was fairly large. The blue gill and sunfish seem to be doing ok, there are some larges ones as well was small, but definitely not over populated. I have learned a lot from this site and thought I would finally join in. Thanks for all of the information from everyone. John

Welcome, John. I lived down in the Pittsburg, KS area for a short time. Those strip pits were great fun, and sure supported a large diversity of fishes. It would be great to own a 19-acre pit!!

What an entrance!
All the fish look great, but those crappie are crazy.
19 acres must just be heaven.
