Pond Frog- You got a question- ask it.
1. I have an older pond. I help out at a bait shop (wholesaler) and have access to blue cats once in a while. I put a handful of smaller blue cats in a few years ago. So far, they do not seem to have adversely affected the population of BG and LMB.
2. I just finished a new pond and asked on here what everyone thought about stocking blue cats in this pond (along with BG and LMB).Rec'd many varied responses and appreciate each one of them.
3. Yes, sometimes conversations on here take diff't twists and turns.
4. Nothing "fishy" here, just glad to have access to a great web site with loads of info to learn from

I would recommend stocking a mix of blues and channels in that pond. I get irritated when folks discourage the stocking of blues in these circumstances, just because they can grow large and eat other fish. That's what you are stocking the forage fish for, right? I have a 2 acre broodfish/recreational pond with blues and channels, along with threadfin and gizzard shad, bluegill, hybrid stripers, and few largemouth bass. I also supplement with feed. I have blues up to around 50lbs, channels up to 15lbs, and all sizes down from that. Sometimes blues bite well, sometimes channels bite well, sometimes they have different preferences for bait. Blues fight incredibly hard and have stolen a great deal of fishing tackle. This keeps it exciting, interesting, and more productive from an angling standpoint.
If you want a quality catfish pond then don't be afraid to stock blues or a mix. Since when is growing large shark-like catfish considered a negative? I am SOOOO with you on this Brotha!!! Man no one would say its a problem to have a 15 to 20 lb bass now would they!! The Blue cat is a GOD sent creature thats the WHOLE resone I invested tens of thousands of dollars in my ponds..

Shaef, you may wanna check with the PFBC before stocking anymore blue cats in your pond. Harrisburg is in the Susquehanna River drainage. I am betting the PFBC wouldn't want blue cats getting established in the Susq... And if they are in your pond, a few no doubt will find their way into the water body that comes out of your pond and then move down stream into the Susq. I just would hate to see the PFBC fining huge amounts of money if they ever found out you were the cause of an illegal introduction.

Normally a true "white catfish" only live on the east coast because they need some salt and are in the rivers that drain in the oceans. Here is a good picture of one : white catfish photo I've caught these before on the east coast, they really look alot like small blue cats, and they don't get near as big as other catfish. Most white catfish are this size in the picture, and usually bite like crazy around 5pm when the sun is dropping in teh backwaters, and if you get a 5 pounder then thats a giant.

There are quite a few true white cats in southern waters that are not brakish as well.
