I know this section deals with unwanted plants but I wasn't sure where to ask this question. I have 5 geese that I want to get rid of. Geese poo all over the place. Any ideas?
I could shoot them but I hate to do that if there is another option.
I've been dealing with that this summer after allowing a nesting pair right on the edge of one of my ponds. After they grew and were able to be self-sufficient, I let them know their welcome was worn out by shooting at them, but not to hit them. It's kind of fun to see how fast they'll scurry out of the way when a .22 mag hits the water a few feet away from them! In any event, after doing that every time I'm at the farm - a few times per week at minimum - they haven't been around for a couple of weeks now. I think if you're persistent in your annoyance efforts, it'll pay off. And if you need to bust a cap in one just to make a point, you'll definitely gain some street cred with them and they'll be just that much more wary of coming back!
I have tried the shooting the water with pelet gun it works for a while but they still made it to the lawn & laid waste! I trained the dog also but as soon as he comes in, they make a landing again. So I made swan decoys, they work so good all the geese left! they used to fly in all day long bathing eating crapping every were, not now! If some do land they are so skiddish they soon leave. my neighbor puts out corn for the geese ( she's a pain ) but nothing is eating it but squirrels. The aggresive posture works the best, hard to find a true aggresive decoy. If they do land in the water they stay far away from our yard. Anbody interested let me know, they are made out of pine & hollowed out. They also have a keel that makes them swim instead of just spinning in place.
keep us updated but doubt that will work fulltime either. They will figure it out and think they left for other reasons right abotu molting time. They are finishing molting feathers and will start flying again soon.
boatman, since in GA you can get a permti and be legal when shooting them.
We had two families of geese this year, one pair had five the other three. After I put the decoys out, the families avoided our property. After a week they left! They walked between houses & went into a field & finished raising the brood. The family flew back but still kept thier distance from my yard. I was amazed! The geese always came to my yard, I lost track of how many hostas they chewed & spit out. this year we have a vegetable garden next to the pond & they have not touched it. The aggesive decoy is a touch front heavy, so the smallest breeze makes him move.
Well here in Ohio they have become a huge pest. They used to move through on their migration but now they spend the entire year. They are messy and aggressive in the Spring! They are beautiful but I do not like them!

Pullo will make you one for a nominal fee! Right Pullo?! Pullo was telling me he is working on a vibrating motor that causes them to pitch back and forth in the water like they are alive. I suggested a small sump pump and hose to cause them to snake back and forth in the water.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.
Yes, anyone interested let me know. I am still working on the motion prototype, test have worked good leaving motion rings. Even without motion they work awesome.
