Nice looking fish! Is that walleye a little on the skinny side? I don't know much about walleye and have never caught one, so I don't know what their normal body shape is. Nice looking fish in general, though.

Never caught a walleye????? Todd, you and I should go meet up at Sunil's and talk him into some walleye fishing this fall, he lives near some of the best river Walleye water in PA. His pond wouldn't be a bad bet either I have heard, and I think he has a nice boat......

Walleye will surprise you when you unhook them, they have a nice set of teeth. The best thing is they have a nice chunk of cheek meat you can cut out and eat raw if the water is cold enough and clean enough. Any bets on us getting the jerky lover to do that??

(Can't you just here a gauntlet slamming to the ground???)

All we need to do is set up the trip, freaks.

Sounds like a plan to me! Maybe if we throw some liquid smoke onto that cheek meat, he'll be able to imagine it's jerky!

I was bass fishing with a buddy one time and he caught a nice walleye - as I recall it was pushing into the high teens in length and looked a bit chunkier than the ones in the pics here, but that's the only one I've ever seen live. I do remember those teeth! My buddy got snagged by one when he was unhooking the fish!

Just let us know when you're not going to be in Argentina or somewhere equally remote, and I'll come up for some walleye fishing! Maybe we can establish an annual walleye freak-a-thon!

Todd,

Yeah the WE are pretty slim right now. Plenty of forage in the pond so I think the warmer water temps and lack of DO in the deeper cooler water has affected their overall health. The one posted above is last years stock put in at 6=8 inches. The larger 16-18 inch ones have not been feeding at all on hook and line and are probably feeling the stress of summer even more.

Hey, that's not bad growth at all, AF! Seriously - 10 - 12 inches in a year or so? Sounds like you're doing something very right!

Todd,

6-8 inches last year grew to the 12-14's I posted so they put on about 5 or 6 inches in one year. The larger ones were planted 2 years ago and kind of stalled out at 16-18 inches but I haven't seen any of those since April.

It will be interesting to see what your maximum size walleye will be in a few years. Please keep us posted.

If pigs could fly bacon would be harder to come by and there would be a lot of damaged trees.

Try to keep good numbers of larger forage fish for them as they get larger. Young YP should provide good forage. Come back to this thread each year and show us the growth progress of those WE. Lets see if you can get them up to 23". Try to go back into the subject and add walleye to the title (We're getting there Walleye).

If that WE is between 1 and 3 years old I would say your off to a good start. The one and two year old WE in Lake Erie are about that size on average.

Around age three they really start getting large. Of course there will be some fish in each year class that do great, but be patient.

Make sure you have plenty of forage size YP and if possible some GSH.

The YP look like they are doing well
