I have a clamp on light off a small pier to attract my bluegill fry to come to my belt feeder at night. I'll take a picture when I get a chance. There is no bug killing device but it seems there are no shortage of bugs that light on the water.
What's really surprising is the yellow perch fingerlings (2 to 3 inches) that nail bugs on the surface under their respective light on the perch production pond. I've never thought of them much as surface feeders but they enjoy nailing small bugs on the surface!
Let us know if you ever get any large bluegills to come under your light. I have bug light I've used on a couple of ponds and the largest bluegills have no interest in surface feeding under them. Mainly 3 to 5 inch bluegills are the only interested fish.
