how many times a day yall feeding now? i cut back to 2 times a day. today i removed the feeder and installed dock legs. while i was there i set the feeder off and the small bg ate a lot, quickly. it was about 12:00 est.. hot and bright and sunny..

I've always fed only once a day and still do even when it's warm. My fish seem to grow just as fast on one feeding a day and I add less nutrients to the water column.

Cecil how does feeding only once a day reduce amount of nutrients to water column?

Simple. You feed less you so you add less nutrients as the fish poop less.

That makes sense but doesn't more feed mean more growth in general? (G) At some point feeding that extra pellet they'd take will provide less return in terms of growth........say than first one! How heavy is the one feeding (type feeder, feed & seconds of broad cast)?

I feed to satiation and by hand. I would say as much as they will eat in 20 minutes or less. I feed about 300 9 to 14 inch perch, about 75 eight to ten inch bluegills, and less than 200 6 to 8 inch smallmouth bass, about 3 lbs. of feed every evening on one .62 acre pond. In another .10 acre pond I feed about 100 8 to 11 inch yellow perch and 200 5 to 8 inch bluegills about 2 lbs of feed. There is other food in both ponds as in fathead minnows and snails.

Your method is better than mine! G I use feeders so on days they want more they are out of luck if I'm not around. Hoping to reduce un eaten food I do several (8#) feedings a day (3 early mornnig, 5# starting at 5 PM) of shortest burst possible (one second). One worry is these fish might be so trained they do little else in the way natural foraging what are your thoughts on that in this situation?
