I watch bill dance on t.v. and he just stated that a study had been completed showing that bass preferred crayfish over bluegill and that they gained weight faster eating the crayfish.

Crayfish are very high in protein and are much easier to catch than bluegill. I would not be suprised.

I think with the right habitat(rocky area) and stocking them prior to the introduction of bass, catfish etc. I think crayfish take hold pretty easy. Stocking them into an established pond with no or little habitat is about as effective as stocking FHM in the same situation.

I would think if the habitat is there, they will find a way to take hold even if you don't stock them.
