Well sort of, we have solid bamboo flooring in our vacation rental. Great stuff. It is very tough in it's non-caramelized form (the caramelizing process supposedly reduces it's strength). The flooring is very tough, for counters you already pointed out the concerns (burning and scratching) but I think with some care you would have a great counter top.

Sometimes I eat off the floor, so it it like a counter top.
