Old saying is that 90% of the fish will be in 10% of the water. I believe that you can change that by building underwater highways to the structure areas. Underwater humps, trenches and ridges leading to brush piles are quite effective. Most life forms will orient on cover, relief and edges. Deep water escape routes next to shallow water cover is fairly important.

If you drop a tree into the water, think about which direction you will be fishing from. If from the bank, put the trunk toward the water. If from a boat, put the trunk toward land. You will get hung up less often.

Bass seem to me to prefer fluffy cover.

I have often thought when trying to figure out where predators will hang out, first figure out where the prey will go for protection. If you build with forage in mind, you will generally find the predators hanging around and waiting.
