Hey guys, I have a 3 acre pond that is shaped like your pointer finger bent. I have a 3 defuser head aeration system and feed the bluegill. I added Tilapia last week, 40 pounds. I tried fertilizing this spring but did not take, I assume because I didn't get the alkalinity up high enough, about 30+. I have added 6 yards of lime since. I have Bass, Bluegills, no catfish, also added some Koi.
Problem is FA around the edges & thick at each end. I am thinking copper sulfate &/or the good bacteria, but have no idea how much to add to a sprayer bottle or how to really use them. I know to do just a little of the pond and wait 2 weeks before doing more. Help! I have even though about grass carp, but I don't think they eat FA. There is also some Duckweed forming.

If the Tilapia were mixed sex, with the warm weather this week, the tilapia will spawn like crazy. The fry will hatch in 10 days and devour the algae....You may want to wait a couple weeks and if the FA is still really bad, thy some chilated copper on it, but don't treat all of it or you may cause an oxygen crash. Treat roughly 33.3% every couple weeks.

I think American Pondweed is actually a reasonably desirable plant, buzz. Like anything, if it gets out of hand, it can detract from the pond's use, but it doesn't seem to have the bad rap that many other plants have. I have some in one of my ponds and it's actually kind of nice looking in my opinion.

Spray the FA with Cutrine Plus before it gets out of hand. I like to add a little bit of Diquat (thanks Ted Lea). You may have to hit it again if/when it returns.

Grass Carp will take care of the Pondweed; generally in the second year.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Ok Guys, used 1/2 pound of copper sulfate to one gallon water then sprayed a section of the 3 acre pond Saturday. What should I expect next? Looks like the area sprayed is turning a lighter green with a slight brown tent. I was thinking of adding some of that bacteria to munch on the dying FA. What do you guys think?
