Somewhere I read that you could plant these trees right in the water as long as you did not plant so deep that the green part of the tree was in the water. I have 10 in 3gal pots & the water is now warm enough.

Has anyone had any experience? Recommendations?

Cypress do well as you have stated. I also think they need to be shallow enough that they will not be in water all year. They can survive in water all year but Im pretty sure like you I have read they do best when planted so that when the pond goes down some they will dry out a little and give the roots a chance catch their breath. Keep looking let me know what you find, Im intrested in planting some myself.

JE, I was over at Berman brothers on the westside this morning getting steel for a project. That new spagetti junction they just built stinks, i thought i was lost before they did that. Now i know i'm lost going from there to downtown when i get steel. I spoke with my local game warden and he stated that there is a certain named cypress that can handle an average of 4-5 ft of water year round. It is sold at the local lowes in our area. I cant place the name but there is at least one. Its the same one that you see out in the middle of lakes and ponds in our area. They are in water up to 5ft or so year round.

Bald cypress is the most common form found at nurseries and they can be planted in low spots or along the bank that have standing water most if not all the time. du

Thank You for the help. I will go wading soon. I would like to see a lot of cypress knees in the water, structure for small fish. Also it is a retention pond, removing excess nutrients from the water is a concern.

I put a bald cypress in my pond about six years ago. Its in about two feet of water and loves it.

waterdawg, how much has the cypress grown in the six years? how long until the get the first knees?
