Cypress do well as you have stated. I also think they need to be shallow enough that they will not be in water all year. They can survive in water all year but Im pretty sure like you I have read they do best when planted so that when the pond goes down some they will dry out a little and give the roots a chance catch their breath. Keep looking let me know what you find, Im intrested in planting some myself.
