My smaller pond is starting to be taken over by filamentous algae. I do not have aeration right now. What chemical is safe for my fish and I can apply right now to help get rid of this.

I would go with mechanical removement if the pond is small enough...
The wind should blow it to the side and you can rake it out. If you have a small boat, you can also rake it, and/or scoop it up with a landing net. It will die off as the weather warms, but in Maine, that may be a while.

I did that at the end of last year and it is back now but starting to go around the whole pond-it is so thick the blowing of the wind does not move it. I also didnt want to pull out any of my perch eggs that have been laid-any other ideas.

I think the chemicals also might harm the eggs. If it is on the surface, it is probably still the stuff from last year (I just finished raking out mine last week). I am not an expert on the chemicals, though, so we probably need an expert to help.

If you are determined to use chemicals such as algaecides which I do sometimes there are a couple of ways to go. Without getting all technical on you, copper based and what I say in slang, salty bleach. A sodium peroxide blend. Pick your poison. With the right applications usually quick results but you have only addressed a symptom, not the root cause for the problem. Plus you increase the chances of a worse bloom sinking all of that dead material for a new bloom, and maybe crash your entire pond. Just thought I would add that disclaimer.

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

You need to stop the source of all the nutrients feeding the algae. Last year my FA was really bad due to all the rotting cattails and flooded over grasses around my pond. I started cleaning the FA out with just a pool skimmer and rake for about an hour the first day and for about 20 minutes after that at a time every few days. Now my 1/2 acre pond is very clean looking. I would not want to do it by hand on a much bigger pond however.
