Very nice LMB docg! Did you tag all of them larger ones or just a couple? Or was that tag on that one already? That last picture looks like a cross between a LMB and ahh.... well?? Somthing?

Not easy to id juvenile Lepomis with accuracy.

Possibly a cross/hybrid.

That may be a warmouth or rockbass, total guess though, and I got to ride on a shock boat for the first time a few days ago and loved it! also got to net them as they floated up, lots of fun. It was on a lake so you never know whats going to come floating up!

That last photo almost looks like what we call a RedBreast down in South Carolina.

I'm thinking green sunfish. Matt may have stepped on to make it look more dramatic.

Looks like an extremely stunted redear. Not enough snails to go around. Very nice bass!

OK. RES-greenie cross. problem is, a greenie cross should not be stunted as they will eat anything. But, the mouth looks pretty big. Then again, if it is stunted, the mouth and eyes will grow faster.
But, on the other hand, blah, blah, blah, blah,................

Thanks Doc, hate it I missed it. I had a lake to map today and as much as I like to be on the front of the shokcboat can't always do it. I believe this about lake 45 (counting 22 on one place) so far for this season.

I think it is a female reader bluegill cross. not much bluegill markings but some are there.

Pure GSF or an Fx cross involving a lot of GSF genetics. I don't see redbreast, redear, warmouth, rock bass in it.

That's what I think too. I was just kidding about the GG. Tongue in cheek.

Great pics! I think it's a deformed RES or RES/GSF cross. There's a slight hint of red on the operculum.

The red (orange in this case) does not always mean there is some redear in there. I've seen that on green sunfish and green sunfish X bluegills.

GSF almost always have orange and yellow to the edge of their operculum. I don't think I have ever seen a population that doesn't. In very young fish, it may be less obvious and is sometimes white, but as the fish matures it usually turns yellow to a darker orange depending on water chemistry, genetics and sex of the fish.

I am just not seeing anything on the fish that would indicate it is a hybrid and anything but a GSF.

Still 2 hours ledt here in the GSF bashing ban so....No comment on what that nasty looking little creature is.

After comparing the pic to some of the pictures in the archives, I don't think there is GSF in it.

Reasons:

GSF and GSF/BG HYB have the mouth extending even to or slightly past the leading edge of the eye. In this fish, the mouth ends well short of the eye.

In the GSF pics, the fish coloration don't match up to the specimen..

I think it might be a HYB, but instead of a GSF in the woodpile, it's a RES or PS. While the coloration leads towards PS, the RES has a slightly larger mouth than the PS and BG. There is a slight whitish tint on the anal fin, but that same tint is on the smaller RES in the archives.

Whatever it is, it seems stunted and unusually elongated.

Besides, JHAP is still safe for an hour and 7 minutes!

First, that dying bass was ridiculously fat, but Ospreys are just about worth having around and feeding fish too.

Second, shocking season has just begun for me. Southern Illinois wednesday and headed to Missouri in about 5 hours for a 40 acre lake. You will likely hear about this one. Supposedly the old owner stocked 700 grass carp 3 years ago.

Third, Bryson learned alot more that day than if he would of been in school.

Fourth, Let me know when you get a tagged bass.

And finally given your stocking history I would put money on that being a retarded hybrid bluegill. When messing with genetics and producing hybrid fish, I commonly see retarded specimens.

I think it one is one of those nasty Hybrid BG offspring that we always talk about but never really see.

Beautiful LMB, how old are the fish?

I barely know the difference between a BG and a GSF, but I have to at least chime in on this one and say that this little guy looks kind of like pics of Pumpkinseeds I've seen before. But, given that none of you guys who know your fish even suggested it, I'm probably way off base. Just seems like the coloration is pretty much spot on with the PS pics I've run across here and there.

Call me ignorant if you must, but I have to ask, why is the man giving the LMB acupuncture?

Actually it looks like he is tagging the bass to keep tract of it's growth, reproductive habits, music preferences, boxers or briefs, mary ann or ginger, that sort of thing. Seriously, I think he is tagging the bass.

My vote is for pure GSF.
