I have a 2" intake pipe on a pump system for aeration.
In the past, I've rigged a half section of a metal minnow trap to act as a screen/ filter. This has been only somewhat satisfactory.
Distal end of the intake pipe is 2-3 feet beneath the surface. If I don't use some type of "screening" aparatus, my pump will clog with baitfish, pond trash etc, in short order.

Any ideas of a simple build for a screen device or where to purchase something that will connect to the 2" PVC pipe and keep debris out of my pump?

Thanks!

I'd look into bumping the distal end up to a larger diameter, say 4" then get a couple sections of well casing screen (water well) to put on the end. The larger the screen section, the longer it will take to clog, and the less velocity of water that will be going thru the screen, allowing fish to swim away instead of getting sucked in.

Michauxii;
How about a piece of 4" PVC to sleeve over the 2". Put a couple bolts through the 4" pipe so it sets where you want it on top of the 2-inch. I'd sleeve it a couple feet over the 2" and this should preclude any debris from getting into your pipe. Plus, this draws subsurface water out instead of the oxygenated surface water. (obviously, extend the 4" pipe above surface level of water). I wouldn't think you'd have a problem with minnows getting between the pipes and into your pump.

If you are using a water pump to aerate, then that is very inefficient. Trying to picture what is being done. Is this an electric pump? You can get much better aeration at a much cheaper price by moving the water with air bubbles from a bottom diffuser.
Can you explain to us what the setup is like? Pictures are good.
