Of all your living areas how much time will you spend at the dock/deck? Where will be the first place you take guests? We don't live on our pond, the dock is crude, yet it is the center of action in the summer. And after we build a house I would guess the dock will still be the center of a lot of action. Of course when the treated lumber decking fades, if it doesn't bother you, I would bet it wouldn't bother anyone else. Faded wood might even be a good look around the pond.
