You can watch these eagles raise their young. Their sitting on 2 eggs. Last year they raised 3. Amazing how fast they grow. The eggs shoulh hatch 1st week of april.

Interesting, Ken. It has been wonderful to watch the recovery of the bald eagles (one of those "within my lifetime" stories). We have 20 on them on a lake just a few miles from town (feeding on some winterkill fish). Nothing like that has occurred over the past several decades.

I had a couple of fish eagles (Ospreys) standing on my pier one day last year. I'm kind of glad they moved on.

that is great. We have eagles wintering here at the convergence of the mississippi, illinois & missouri. most have moved on, but there are a few giant nests right on the great river road (rts 100, 143 &3) that still have pairs living in them. I thought it was too warm here in the summer to house the eagles, but this is the first year i've lived this close to the river, and the locals tell me that once and a while we're lucky enough to have them stay year round to raise chicks.

maybe they'll move on soon, i'd be sorry to see them go, but it is the way of the world, i guess. it is supposed to get up to 80 here this week...which means the turkey vultures will be back soon too.

As far as it being too warm aren't they found as far south as the Everglades?

yeah, i think so...but don't they prefer to hatch and rear (sp?) their young in the colder parts of the continent? I thought that was why here in STL they just stay for the winter. But I guess, with the Mississippi, MO & IL all converging, there are plenty of fish to eat.

Who knows, maybe i'm just full of local logic, that happens to be mainly hearsay and mostly wrong.

whatever the facts are, i know i pulled out an asian carp from the illinois river a few weeks ago out in front of perre marquette st park, threw it on the shore and had the pleasure of watching 2 bald eagles chase off the seagulls and carry it over to their nest. No matter if they stay year-round or not...they are just bada$$.

Theres a clip on You Tube that shows how eagles hunt seagulls.

I have wondered if the invasion of the asian carp has played a big role in the recovery of the bald eagle. The way carp like to swim slowly close to the surface seems the make them the ideal target. Hopefully the eagles can eventually be able to control thier numbers. Probably wishfull thinking.

I drive rt2 from toledo to avon lk a couple times a week,on my trips I,ve been seeing eagles around the besse nuk plant. I belive their nest is about 300 yrds off the rd,it's easy to spot with no leaves on the trees, it's just in front of the plant off to the side.

Funny , they must like nuke plants. Theres nest at Perry Plant too.

making my run this morning around 8:30 they were out in full force seen 6 all within 7 miles of the plant 5 adult 1 youngster ,also spotted another nest.

Mama wiggled, then stood up and mini-me popped his furry little head up. Only saw one.
