Randy,
I would try something les appetising to my bass.
Try chicken livers. A trick to keeping them on the hook is to cut off a piece of womens hose & tie around them. This can be done either before or after the liver is on the hook. We used to prepare several livers in advance (anticipation!) of going fishing.
