I put on my tall rubber shut boots and plodded through the heavy wet snow down to the pond. The ice has that bluish-gray "death of ice" look to it, though I imagine it is still at least 20 inches thick. This is a semi-panoramic view of the current state of affairs. The water level is up 3 inches in two days and there is water on the top of the ice especially on the east side of the pond. Barge area looking south Barge area looking east Barge area looking west My arm was in the 35 degree water up to the arm pit to pull up the under water lights. They need to be out of the water because the dock and barge will be rising considerably with all the snow melt still to come. There is no sense in tearing up the under water wiring. How high will the water rise on the water level tube?

Nice pics. I hope your fish don't get scared without their nightlight. 14 more inches.
Good morning Dave, I've checked the ships systems, and everything appears to be running normally.

Just my arm. How high will the water rise on the water level tube? (That is the question) I may have to contact BC to get this contest going.

It will rise to the level of the spillway. From the looks of the container on the brake drum lighting base, you had a visit from a Pittsburg Pirate , or else a small fathead.

How come you don't have a water level column on your observation chart? 32" rise not including the 3" that it came up already.

burgermeister - It will rise to the level of the spillway.
From the looks of the container on the brake drum lighting base, you had a visit from a Pittsburg Pirate , or else a small fathead. No spillway! The bottle is a refugee from the Corona Reef that likes the rays better than the camaraderie of the other bottles that live on the Reef. esshup - How come you don't have a water level column on your observation chart? 32" rise not including the 3" that it came up already. Need another dimension to graph more columns. Yes, the start level is 12 inches on the tube.

Just don't allow fractions of 5/16 in the contest.
Water will rise 4 5/16" total.

12.75 inches today. Up .75in, 3/4in, and yes 12/16in today. I have a photo, but it is only for use in case there are side bets on the rate of increase on the way to the maximum.

Rate of increase = the rate of warming (ice melt) - evaporation rate + rainfall and + river level hydrostatic pressure rate increase.

ewest - Rate of increase = the rate of warming (ice melt) - evaporation rate + rainfall and + river level hydrostatic pressure rate increase. There were a couple flaws in your formula, though you were very close. Rate of increase = rate$((ice melt+added moisture+river hydrostatic pressure+ground water inflow)-evaporation rate) ∞unknown influences

14.25 inches today. The Rock River opened up over night and is rising rapidly.

My Rock River control credential has lapsed so no help with volume control. I can tell you that there is still plenty of melting to go. I just checked the level tube and it is now at 20.5 inches. Up 2 inches in 6 hours.

Is the clarity staying the same, or is the inflow of water bringing suspended sediment with it?

Is the clarity staying the same, or is the inflow of water bringing suspended sediment with it? The water remains clear as glass. Since it is entering the pond via hydrostatic pressure from below it gets filtered through sand and gravel as it enters. Depth tube reading this morning, Monday 26 inches.

Hmmm, who is the most accurate on the rising so far? Devine interpetation, past experience, lucky guess? We shall see. As long as Darlene is happy, the stick abides.
