Finally in my new place and putting a few minutes of thought on just how I am going to manage to keep trout from escaping the beaver pond that is on my property and soon to be used for micro-hydro generation. The big trick is making it difficult for beavers to block my outflow pipes and inlet creek but at the same time making it just as difficult for the trout to get out.
Anyone figure out a solution to living with beavers and still being successful in not just 'wasting' trout fingerlings on 'other' parts of the watershed?

Hey thanks, I have a beaver deceiver-like fence and beaver baffler on the output side, although neither is really small enough mesh to stop fish from getting out I 'hope' it wil deter the beavers. They are just now coming out so we shall see. The other issue I have is the upstream escape and overflow from the dam itself since it is beaver-made and has alot of leaks. I suppose if I stock slightly larger trout I might have beter luck. I love my 'free' pond but don't much like the beavers. (Trapping will ensue once I get time)

It's not about the fish. It's about the pond. Take care of the pond and the fish will be fine. PB subscriber since before it was in color.

Yes, landowners are allowed to shoot then on their own property. One of the tricks of course it that it is not legal to night hunt which is when the little buggers are most likely to come out.
Just had a walk around today and met a huge otter... I can foresee the same set of issues I had at the last place. At least this one will never run low of water. ; )

I have to get a picture of the Otter I saw the other day, largest I have ever seen. Looking like I will be enjoying all the same fun with this pond as the last one. Only this one has too much water versus not enough.
