The fishing professionals I was talking to have done an admirable job of providing fishing opportunities to a wide range of people. We can�t depend on government to do it all for us though. We have to step up to the plate ourselves.
Certainly any one of us can�t do it all, but if everyone does a little, we can get a lot done. What I�m suggesting is that everyone have a group of special needs people out fishing once a month or so. What a difference that would make.
One problem you might run into is helpers wanting to bring their kids or grandkids out fishing also. For me, the answer is easy�no. I have these groups out fishing but no one else. I don�t give permission to others to fish and no one can fish in our lake without me being present.
To go beyond ourselves, we need to get others involved. There are some upscale fishing clubs getting started with their own lakes. Have them start an outreach program where they have some special needs people such as disabled or paralysised veterans fish their lake periodically. Many golf clubs have small lakes. Have them get involved. Some home owners associations have a lake. What a perfect opportunity to get involved. Other groups that might have lakes are religious groups, scouts, Isaac Walton leagues and other civic organizations.
There is so much to do and so many groups that can help us. We just have to get everyone to do a little bit.
