Im going to construct a rectangular lift net. It actually look like a cross between a lift net and a holding box on this page.http://www.memphisnet.net/category/nets

I will be using it to capture fish to be trasported. the smallest fish that I want to catch is say 2" CNBG, so i'd be looking to get the 1/8 mess size plus I can get it in 10ft widths. I know i need something soft but i hope it would be durable also and not degrade so I can store it for a year or so at a time.

Under "Seine Netting" on memphis net they have "Knotless" and "Knotted" seine netting along with different brands etc.

What is the pros/cons of Knotless and Knotted, and does the brand matter, they have delta and Ace.

Thanks for the help in advance.

Knotted netting tends to beat fish up, at least when used in landing nets. Not sure how it would affect the fish in the lift net use... I would think knotless would also provide less drag allowing you the ability to lift the net faster and catch more fish. At least those are my opinions on the subject. Bill Cody has a lot more experience using lift nets than I do, so he may have an opinion.

Check out this thread and Brunson Net Company. They can make anything net wise you want and are easy to deal with.

Hes buying a seine thread.

I've used the knotless Delta for constructing a fish holding box, and it works very well. I believe if the muskrats wouldn't have chewed thru it, it would have lasted more than the 8 years that it was in the water. I'd pull it out every Fall before ice formed, and put it back in the lake in the Spring. I paid extra for their net treatment, and I think that was a good investment.

One other thought, Chadwick. The smaller the mesh, the more resistance when you try to lift or pull a net. So, go with the largest mesh that does the job for you. If you want 2 inch and longer bluegills, you can definitely go with 1/4 inch (bar or square measure), and probably could even go up to 3/8. 1/2 starts to retain bluegills at about 2.5 inches, so it's defintely too large.

Just a reminder for all readers on mesh measurement. Bar (or square) is knot to knot distance. Let's take the 1/2 inch bar measure. It has four sides, and all are 1/2 inch long. That same net is 1 inch stretch measure (pull two opposing knots tight, and then measure that distance). Need to pay attention to this, or you'll end up with a mesh that is too big or too small for what you wanted.

Dave, thanks for the helpful hints on size, I think i'll go with 1/4 and be safe. Would be way better than the 1/8 that I was thinking.
