Hello guys and gals,

I am new to the forum . My question is ... I just got a quote for 17 K for the addition of two light ,fountain fxtures to one of three ponds I plan to lght, (view). My main pond 1.6 acres is currently going to be aerated for about 3k total. So infact Im looking for looks in this next project.

Of course the catch... I am an "M.D. "

... property is 10 plus acres and prestine ... sooo ...every quote I get for anything is usually over budget...a doc's life is a D.Trumps life..right?:).. I wish

Question is after this 17k quote... wife had a coronary and my dreams of a beautiful Hacienda went blank.

I did a quick google searrch, however; and fond... these floating pond lighted fountain do it yourself kits for a fraction of the cost. Is this for real? and if so what company would you guys recommend if this is a reality.
Because my reality is that I love fishing and aquaculture and my inner city acreage is my Minn Kota charger to KEEP being the "old fashioned" solo doc I am !(DINOSAUR)+

DocFish welcome to PB. Can you tell us the company or specifics on the fountains. We have several members/companies who are in that business who I suspect could offer a little competition. We have both manufacturers and their reps here and a bunch of pond mgt companies. We also have a bunch of do-it-yourself type guys also. For what its worth there are a lot of dinosaurs also so you are among friends.

I suspect that a guy that is willing to even consider a couple of expensive fountains for his pond(s) is likely owner of a couple of very attractive pond sites.

i have some great pics but not really getting the hang of posting them. How do I put them on. They r JPEG format not gif . A little help.

Also two companies I was looking at are Eagle Fountain Works and Lake and Bay Fountains.

They are floating fountains and I think I could do the job . The 17 K fountains is way over my head. I have a lot to do around here. As a matter of fact can't wait until the morning going to sink some brushpiles and build a rock reef.

I nailed a 10 pond LM yesterday by chance and that fueled me man.
I also am an avid striped bass Fisherman ,...so I am going to enjoy this forum, great outlet and you guys are great.

Fine looking pond... Looks like the geese are lining up to fed at the fish feeder.

Doc, not sure about what your goals are. Aesthetics are one thing and water quality is another. If water quality is your goal, consider aeration. Fountains are purely aesthetic.

My feelings about fountains: Fountains are like racehorses and beauty contest winners. They are expensive, good for nothing but looking at, and don't do a lick of work.

That said, if your wife wants a fountain, get a second job. You're never going to win that battle.

Hey I know Greg well those guys at " " (his company) are the best! They manage my ponds.

Actually he and his crew are going to install aerators with in the next couple of weeks, my question was, because I could'nt afford the type of fountains they offer, if anyone had ever used the floating do it your self type fountains and are they reliable products.

The 4th of July fireworks-fountain display did me in. My lower GI tract is toast.

Oh and yes my daughter's (twins) have bonded with the 60 or so geese that we share:) our home with.

My German Rotts ;however, are 135 pounds a piece at 8 months and I am hoping they get along with the geese as I have finally finished the ridiculously costly fencing project for my entire estate:)

Geese and bass will probably rule the ponds dogs the land:) I suspect.

The day was heavy today lot of sick and hurting folks out there , wierd how they all know I love to fish and usually my patients leave feeling enlightened by our conversations.

If you have done a DIY fountain lets hear about it.

Never built a foaunten, but tried to build a watering system from offshore/ship deluge/sprikler heads(fire fighting equipment) that i got for free.
They made nice looking paterns/shapes of the water.
They give the VOV factor and can handel volum and high presure as vell as big particles without clogging, and last for ever(high grade steel).
So thats my tips for delivery nossle.

I had not followed this thread and hope you get some good advice. I did not want to chime in and discourage others from giving input. I appreciate the business and Yes the Vertex aeration system will be going in on Thursday.
I think we must have done a poor job communicating with you. I started to just contact you directly but thought is appropriate to post here as well. The two quotes were for (3) 2 hp for nearly $18,000 and a separate quote for (3) 1 hp units from Kasco Marine for $14,000. This was for 3 of these units per your recommendations based on the picture you send to Matt. We quoted these with very good pricing of course since you�re a good customer. You mention in the first post 2 fountains- the quote was for 3. I think where we might have gone astray was in not bidding anything else and follow-up on budget once you did not accept either bid.
If this is over budget we can work within what you can afford. We have NEVER sold three fountains to a pond your size (I wish). One I think would look great. Also as mentioned by Cary we are distributors for Aqua Control; they have some great options in fact maybe even better options in your situation/goals. We were going off what we thought you wanted. I will contact you to go over these other possibilities or since this in public forum I can quote it here either way you wish for me to do.
I do not feel in your situation the DIY or the brands you mention would be a good fit. They are the type that I think require maintenance. We have some on neighborhood lakes we manage and they seem to be not working as much as they are working. I think we can come up with a solution less than half the $17,000 if interested. My point is I want you to be happy whether we are the ones to do the fountain install or not. I do not think the cheaper style is what would make you happy long-term. I have chosen to sell Kasco, Vertex and Aqua control because I feel they give the best value for our customers. I feel we offer these at better pricing than anyone in our area. Sorry if we did a poor job communicating the other options to you. Thanks again for opportunity.
