lots of great pictures!! I can't wait until the shore of mine looks better! My pond is about 1/2 acre with a couple of deep holes at 15 and 10 feet. here are some pics. It is going through it's first full winter. last spring  and filling in the winter  here is a view of it filling last fall  keeps the pictures coming!

Nice looking pond. That's probably the size I'll be building, as my land is only 2.5 acres. Those pics give me some good ideas on the shape I would like my pond to look.

The title said small ponds. Mine is about 1/10 acre, 50'x80' and 12'deep at full pool. It is going on the fourth season now, it was dug in September 2006. I've been fighting a leak problem since it was built, but "with a little help from my friends" on PB it has slowed. Couldn't find a better website for information and help. Spring 2009- April  Early summer 2009- June  I also like rocks surrounding my pond. I still have to complete the far sloped area at the rear of the pond. I have the stones, most came from the excavation, it's in New Hampshire after all. Just need a way to get them down the slope with out putting them in the bottom of the pool.

Here are two photos, first is 4/15/05, the next is 12/1/08. The majority of the landscaping was done by Mother Nature, I am continually amazed at how fast she can reclaim her land.  
1/4 & 3/4 acre ponds. A thousand miles from no where and there is no place I want to be...

Great waterfall - I love that feature. All against a NH backdrop - very nice.

What great pictures. I would love to get more rock around my pond. It does seem to take lots of work. What a labor or love! For those with rock around the sides, how do you keep the grass and stuff out? Pulling? Spray?

That's a great question Coach, most of mine were placed around during excavation because they're so large. I've been filling in the open areas for years now. The weed pulling goes on all growing season. I don't want to use weed killers because I have trout and PS in the pond.
If I could do it over I would have placed a landscape cloth down first, but that may have been fruitless because; The slopes are steep and I'm sure that during excavation it would have been torn anyway.

I set mine in concrete/mortar. That was fine the first year, but as time wore on the dirt under the rock/concrete eroded and left an unsightly mess with the concrete breaking up.  I am now doing what I should have done originally, planting in the spaces caused by the breaking up. Had I of seeded between the rocks in the beginning, I might have avoided the problem.

Right you are, most places are their own version of paradise. The beauty and the beast here is a year round growing season.
