Maybe I can shed some light on the Golden shiner. They are an added forage base on top of your BG and fathead minnows. If you are wanting large bass, then stocking the goldens are only going to help you.
The amateur usually just stocks fatheads because he doesn't understand the concept of stocking big bait fish. The more a bass has to chase a minnow, the more energy he is expending thus not putting on as much weight as he should. Now you throw shiners in the mix and the bass expend less energy feeding and pack on more weight.
