Never thought this would happen. Been in the business 16 years. Always knew I had the best job on earth and was very grateful for it. Looked forward to going to work. Thinking of hiring someone to just run business and explore other business options. I know I have became apathetic and jaded. Happened to anyone else out there? Any pointers?

It's happened to me in taxidermy more than once. Been doing it more than 25 years. However at my age there are not many other options so I keep plugging.

I've been lured into pond management for others but always turned it down. It's looks like a lot of work to me. That and I'm still learning how to manage my own ponds.

Most people go through the same thing at some point in there career. Hang in there. Welcome to PB.

Have somebody run your business for a month or so.Sounds like you need a good vacation. If you watch the news, there is a great deal of people who would love to be in your shoes.

Oh, yeah.

I took a four-month leave from my job (went to China to teach); it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Came back with renewed interest/energy. If you have a way to do something different for a few months without completely abandoning your ability to do your current job, it may be worth doing on a trial basis.

Many people think that my job would be such fun because it is related to what most consider a hobby. The most interesting thing I do most days is make bar graphs out of M&Ms.

Ugh, I'd give my left arm to have your job.

It always looks better on the outside looking in. I've had people think I have the life of Riley doing taxidermy. Not necessarily.

I would give both my arms to have your job. My job really does suck. Landscaping and lawncare. Gets old quick!

Oh yes! I think it happens to most.

I've seen friends buy little red convertibles, divorce their wives, and find 20-something brainless babes.

From a very early age, I had a number of very strong passions. I got hooked at about age seven in the one passion that became my life-long career. But, several passions could just as easily have become my career. Twice I've strayed from my chosen career. Twice I've lost my shirt. I may still do it again, and I'm not young anymore.

I don't have the passion for this field I had 40-some years ago. I can't even spell most of the new acronyms that define my life. I certainly can't see these items I work with, without a microscope.

But today, and for at least the last 10 years, one of the main parts of my job is counseling/mentoring people in their 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s who are experiencing what you are going through. They range 3 or 4 pay grades above and below me.

I probably spend half my day counseling and teaching -- not the technology we work with, but about life. Don't let anything get you down, no matter how hopeless it might look. There is incredible help available, and there are incredible opportunities, especially with the economy in the shape it is currently in.

Even though I've failed at times, I've been very successful at other times. Don't be afraid to look at other options. Don't be afraid to walk away -- just remember, if you do, you should never look back. It's over. It's done. You can't lament. You can't change the past. But, most important of all, don't take anybody down with you. Don't lay a guilt trip on anyone else.

Wow Ken you really impress me.

I(myself) wouldn't burn all my bridges behind me. Hire somebody to run your business for a couple months. Then stop and think of what you have and what you could lose. I don't know your age but if you don't have the energy and time to put into a new career, it does take a lot of time and money to start a new business.

Also there are lots of side-business'es(to many s's sp?)on pond related issues to direct your energy into.
