Thanks Brettski! It's a design I came up with myself. We did have a bit of an engineering snafu because we did not want posts in the middle of the greatroom. We had to use engineered beams to carry the 20 foot span.

The really COOL thing about this is that we are using a barn builder and the cost for the dried in building is only $15 a square foot plus the cost of windows and doors. We got his framing crew to do all the interior framing for $10 a linear foot.

We went with Low E, Argon windows which added a good chunk but will be worth it in the long run. We also chose to finish the concrete floors instead of buying floor covering.

We are subbing everything else out ourselves. Well, everything we can't do. I will be doing all of the trim and Mark will do most of the electrical with his brother.

All in all, we should have a 2800 sq foot heated and cooled house, with storage, two 10x20 decks and a 22x26 carport completed for just under $120K.

If it's not fit for you to eat, what makes you think it's good for your dog?

Bski,
I just read this thread and didn't know if you had made a decision on your siding or not, but let me know if you are still looking. I have a pallet (about 19.5 squares) of primed Maxiplank fiber cement siding left over from my house still in the factory wrap. I don't know if that would be enough for your job or if you would have a way to pick it up, but I would sell it to you for way cheaper than what the vinyl would cost you. Let me know if you would be interested.

Thanks for the nudge, bbjr. PM's exchanged...
Post a couple of pics of your project. As I recall, it was gonna be a monster.

No problem, BSki, I figured I would throw you the offer before I tried listing it on Craigslist. The LP is great stuff, also. We use it to cover the front porch posts on the homes we build. The only downside is that we 45 the edges on the table saw and it produces a razor sharp edge (so be careful if you do this), and even though we caulk the joints, we do get some seperation over time (this may be attributed to movement in the treated 4x4 post that the LP is attached to, though). Other than that, it seems to take paint very well and seems to hold up. I can't help but worry a little bit that the OSB core will not swell over time, but we have been using it for about 6 years and haven't seen any signs of swelling, yet.

Here are a couple of pics of my house. I will post more on the habitat thread when I am all done (which is on schedule for Christmas................. of 2016, lol).

And here is a teaser pic of me and the supervisor working on the inside:

Here are my two cents if it were me in your predicament:

I wouldnt cover the gorilla wrap with anything. Also dont let the time frame for gorilla wrap expiration dictate what siding you want to install. If you want to install any type of siding during the winter, I recommend wearing a coat and some gloves, the siding and gorilla wrap will be fine.

Here I was thinking I was on my Siding forum, not the pond forum. Tell you what I did. I'm 55 and a lady friend who was laid off from her job is 57. We tore down the Masonite siding on my two story house and installed Hardie siding. Just the two of us. Spent more time with her then my wife. My house covered 2400 sq.ft., so fairly large.
Went to Lowe's for 8.25"X12' hardie lap siding, $5/each.
Went to Amazon for all my tools, siding nailer, nails, hanger brackets for siding...etc.
Went to Craigslist for a 20' scaffold, $450.
Took six months to do it in between work and play.
Went to Sherwin for "Superpaint", not the top of the line stuff you mentioned as the painters (I didn't paint it) don't like the stuff as it's to thick and doesn't spray well. $3000, including labor.
I had a couple quotes to do it for around $21K to $22K. Did it myself, with the help of this lady friend, for about $10K.
Can't beat hardie siding, it lasts for ever, is easy to cut (need mask of course) and is not as brittle as some believe. I think we broke one piece the whole time.
Don't buy the pre painted hardie, only the primed hardie. Your wasting your money to pay the extra for the pre painted as your going to have to paint it either way, do to the hand prints and normal installation issues (joints, calk...etc).
