Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain G. shiner question

Is it possible with the right conditons to create a G. shiner population that would be an effective forage bass as shad? In lakes with shad, I have seen bass so fat they look like that might explode. I was wondering that with proper management could the same results with G.shiners be done?

For the best results whant kind of grass should be used? Grass that grows along the perimter or submerged?

Down South, the threadfins spawn multiple times per season, we don't get that with the Golden Shiners. But I do like GS as forage.

My shiners seem to spawn where I have thick vertical weed growth in the 2 ft range, the gambusia rule the shallows.

Will your water get to the low 40's in winter if so it may kill your TShad. If GShad then that is a different question. GShiners will do ok with either shad species assuming your pond will support them, but you may need another forage type as well. I like GShiners and TShad if yours will survive your winter. I don't like GShad except in certain very limited circumstances.
