n8, that golden trout is stunning.

They taste better than rainbows too! Meat is very orange and sweet!!

You guys from up Nort have all the luck with so many species to stock and fish for.

I cooked a golden (or maybe it was a palomino) and a a rainbow side-by-side and the rainbow was firmer. Both trout had whitish flesh, same flavor to me. How do you cook them? I've noticed that the golden/palomino is more aggressive towards lures than the rainbows.

For some dumb reason all the goldens seem to hang out near the surface most of the time, and the rainbows tend to hang out near the bottom. The goldens definitely follow lures and baits much more than the rainbows and we catch 2 goldens to 1 rainbow.

It drives me crazy, because we have an osprey that keeps swooping down and plucking up a golden trout every morning!

I cook trout mainly on the grill within 2 days of being caught. If I dont cook em in time, then I just saute the meat on the stove and mix it in with a whole bunch of cream cheese or sour cream (whichever is available, and sometimes both) shredded chedder, chives and spices to taste, occasionally some liquid smoke, and sometimes some shrimp pieces or crab meat. Then dip liberally with crackers!

Thanks n8ly. The dip sounds good. I think my trout were out of the pond for 1/2 hr. before they hit the hot oil in the pan.

I think I noticed an early gill tab formation on your neck when I saw you at PBIII.

Nates Osprey is awesome! I enjoyed being awakened by it's scream and watched it dive 3 times before staying under water about 30 seconds on the fourth dive. It came out of the water and I watched it as it circled around the lake house within 20 feet of the upstairs window I was watching from. I went to the opposite side and didn't see it anywhere. Then I heard it scream like it was right next to me. I looked up toward the sound of the scream and it was sitting on the light pole just above me enjoying the Golden Trout for breakfast. I got to watch it a couple minutes before Nate and his dad drove up and it flew off--breakfast in tow (toes).

In spite of lowering water temps and pre-frontal winds, yesterday we had a blast finding HSB that wanted to play.

Normally we fish at least 6 weight fly rods to quickly CPR HSB to avoid �fight to death� syndrome� in warm water, so with the cooler water we switched to 4 and 5 wt fly rods to get a fight out of mostly 3# class HSB.
Talk about fighters, screaming drags � great day.
HSB rule

Water temp of 57 degrees shut off CNBG and LMB feeding so reset feeders to one time per day at warm afternoon temps at 3:00 pm � plan to feed HSB all winter if no prolonged freezing temps , which is a rarity in our part of the country.

No tilapia die-off as yet.

Dang Rex, those HSB are getting huge! What were the length and weights on those fine fish?

We didn't do any w/l measurements.

The fishing was slow perhaps due to the feed we were throwing out before stocking, and then the subsequent stocking of 100 lbs. of Golden Shiners which is also what we were fishing with.

I caught two HSB, a few YP, and a bullhead. Rex caught one HSB.

We saw some LMB, but didn't hook into any.

Rex's fish was probably around 2.5-3 lbs. and my two were closing in on 4 lbs., maybe a litte over.

Being the techno-phobe that Rex is, he doesn't know how to set the date on his camera. These fish were caught on 11/22/09, as far as you know.

your water looks awesome! How far down can you see in it? With the water being so clear do you have a problem with the cormerants?

Never seen a cormorant here (knocking on wood right now).

I'd say you can see 2-3' right now.

We typically have clear water except after heavy rains.

I have never seen a cormorant more than about 50 miles inland in the mid-Atlantic on up to the northeast. Ospreys, herons, kingfishers and mergansers are around though...

We have our share of GBH and GH.

I like having them there. In fact, it was about 9 years after owning the pond before I ever saw a fish w/ a GBH wound.

Real nice HSB Sunil, I see I'm not the only one who forgets to reset the camera date when the battery dies.

Or was PA. experiencing global warming last Jan.
