Thinner diameter line casts further & allows the lure to run deeper. But, when fishing for toothy critters lighter line doesn't help unless you're using some type of leader. Flurocarbon lines are supposed to be slightly more abrasion resistant than regular mono, and the braided lines are even more abrasion resistant, but they are much more visible than mono.
