I read some where that for lighter lures and long distance casts the best reel you can use is a spincaster (push button reel) I have expermented with this in the past, and a quality spincaster like the Diawa Goldcast reel will give you more distance. I have casted straight Rapalas (#9 or #11) with this reel up against a spinning reel with the same action rod, and pound test line. You do get more distance with the spincaster then a spinning reel. I do not like using spincasting equipment and only resort to them for light lures in skinny water for anti-spooking qualities. Incidently the Diawa Goldcast series has the best drag system I have ever found on a spincasting reel.
