Your distance doesn't sound too shabby. I like a limp line for spinning reels. If you do go with a braided line, you probably should tie on a leader of mono - braided like is pretty visible to fish. What's causing you to lose lures, getting hung up, or fish cutting the line?

If you are reeling the lure up close to the rod tip before casting, try letting it hang down two feet or so. It might get you a bit more distance. You may know this, but if you hold the rod tip up high when reeling, the lure will run a bit shallower.
