Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain stocking new pond

Hello all, thanks for the help. Do any of you know if transferring small LMB into a new pond from an exsiting pond will work better than buying fish from a hatchery? My buddies pond is over populated with 1lb LMB. ??

Below is some info about your question on what comes out of a LMB crowded pond if that helps. I would not try to do that if there were other choices. You may transport unwanted bacteria or fish diseases into your pond and unless you can tell age and genetics when you catch them without killing them IMO it is not a wise move. It can be done but you need to be good and lucky for it to turn out well. To big a risk for me.

smhog - One of your several main concerns for transporting these 11"-13" bass is to provide an adequate amount of forage items for each bass. Each of those small adult bass will need to consume 7 to 10 pounds of forage fish if you expect them to gain a pound in the next year. If they only get 3-5 lbs each weight gain will not occur. Less than 3 lbs of forage for each per year the bass will probably lose a little weight by years end.
