I saw these on TV and started Googling. These things are WAY cool. What a great way to retain gravel for a driveway too. I think these are going to make the housebuilding list.

They are cool, but can get pricey. (depending on your budget of course!) How large of a drive were you thinking of doing with these? (length and width in feet)

Probably just a small side parking area to start 20 x 20. The house budget is tight but we have such serious erosion problem, these might be a way to counteract and redirect water-flow around the house. I'm sure I could use them to create borders too. I've priced stone and rip rap and its all crazy expensive here. We are in a coastal plain and have virtually no stone for at least 100 miles. It has to be trucked in at $35 a ton with a minimum order of an entire truckload of 27 tons.

That really is a neat product, sort of a plastic variation of the perforated steel plate we used in the military.

Anna: Not including shipping & handling that 20' sq. area would run $977.00, a bit more expensive than the stone.

These are the answer to those who want to maintain a "natural" enviroment. Thanks for the post.

I'd really like to be able to use them, but for the amount of driveway that I have the cost is prohibitive. I put down 40 tons of stone, and I figure I still have to put down another 40, maybe 50.

There are several sources listed on the web. I could probably price shop and get the cost down if I buy in bulk. There is actually a distributor right here in Alabama.

I'd really like to use them where our carport meets the yard. I'm thinking 10' out along the entire width which is 26'. That's only 260 sq. feet but would solve the water run off problem we have there and prevent further erosion.

Our soil is so sandy, it moves all over the place in the rain and the house is sitting on the side of the hill. Plus we are basically making our own roads in and out with a box blade. No stone yet because we don't have the permanent placement of the roads worked out. Plus these pavers could easily be moved as needed.

I did see one application where they used them as tire tracks, similar to the old style driveways that had two strips of concrete with grass in between. That might be a more cost effective way to stretch their use.

Just a word of caution, a company I worked for installed a similar product and during a heavy rain period they sank when driven over, these were the commercial variation of the product you are looking at.

So there could be the added cost of an underlayment if the area doesn't support a car already.

Might look at what your local dirt roads are covered with if the budget is tight. Then as funds become available add gravel.

Here's another company that sells a similar product.

Personally, I'm skeptical as to their long term function and value. I would continue to consider and investigate more common and established methods. Perhaps let a landscaper that specializes in driveway roadbeds give you some input and ideas. Then, steal 'em and DIY.
