So have you decided against a re-do, or is this just an interim solution until you make a final decision on how you want to proceed?
From a number of other posts on the forum, it sounds like the best advice if you want to use a weed killer is to be very selective in what type you use as it can/will run into the pond and create some problems in the water for fish and other desired vegetation. There have been a few particular brands with more specialized concentrations of the active chemical recommended by others here, but I'm not able to recall them offhand. I'm sure someone else will be able to do so.
