Pond Boss Forums STOCKING A NEW POND Creating the food chain I need a fathead minnow supplier

I added 500 fathead minnows along with my 500 bream earlier this year to my new pond. I have since added 100 F-1 bass that are now about 4" long. My bream are already in the 5-6" size and I have noticed very few minnows now. I watch my F-1's chasing minnows all day long and I'm guessing my bream are eating some too? Should I add another 500-1000 minnows for forage? My local supplier only sells them in early spring when the water temp is below 60 degrees.

If your bream are spawning, as I think they would be if 5"-6" long, I suspect adding more fatheads would be a waste of money.

Can you tell if your BG have spawned , Do you see any BG in the .25 to 1 in. size . Often they look like minnows when small and darting around pond away from bass. I agree with Theo if BG have and are spawning you should be ok. I don't think it would hurt to put more fatheads in if you want to. They would in about 6 weeks be the right size for your bass { 6 in bass and 2-3 in FH }. In the mean time they may spawn if you have grass , brush or pallets/limbs in shallow water. ewest

Thanks for the advice. My bream are actually on their second spawn...still some on the beds as I post this. I have seen alot of small fry that I assumed was baby minnows. A month ago there was just alot more minnows than I see now around the edges. I have seen a few 1 1/2" bream and was wondering if they were runts or possibly from an earlier spawn. Thanks again guys, I'm a first time pond owner and need all the info I can get.
