As to the other variables, plankton is controllable and thus wouldn't factor as a limiter short of a high outflow such that fertilization can't be done effectively; temperature in that area is normally a little warmer than where I live as per one would expect from the latitude and elevation (I have an aunt who lives an hour from there in Jackson so I know the area).

To tell the truth, I based my recommendation not just on firsthand knowledge of multiple lakes north of Layne that have successfully had TS stocked, but the fact that SEPM stocks them at this latitude. They strike me as one of the best pond management companies around and people that know their stuff, so I felt confident that if they had stocked them at this latitude, and I knew of BOWs at this latitude that had successfully had them stocked, that it was a safe recommendation.

I know the SEP folks well including the Jackson TN group. They will tell the owner the same things we talk about here and let the owner decide. No guarantees on long term survival. FYI I have one pond now with good alkalinity and water quality and added fertilizer of several types all through spring and summer. Never could get a green plankton bloom. SEP could not figure it out either. Next step is to get Bill to look at the water next spring when it warms. Not always controllable.

CJ I agree with your proposition. However, Bill would be the first one to tell you that there are others with as much or more "knowledge" as him.

I will tell you that there is no one who can match Bill's combination of caring , interested and supportive approach to PB coupled with the application of his considerable knowledge both theoretical and practical to our problems.

It's the person behind the knowledge that makes Bill truly a gem. Just like with doctors its the commitment to the patients and not just that one was first in his med school class that makes a true physician. In that sense Bill is the PB physician .
