You might try freeze dried blood worms for your BG tank. That is most of what mine eat. They're pretty finicky about other dried food.
Adding cover helps curb their aggressive tendencies. My tank of two BG are thriving since Labor Day 2007... the third BG died (tragedy!) about six months ago. It's the next best thing to having a pond...
