I have some 4-5 pound channel cats in my pond. Several people have told me recently that catfish compete with bass by eating bluegill and baby bass. Does anyone know if that's true? If so, I will haul them out.

It all depends on what you want...if you like big cats keep them, if not it is time to do some harvesting.
Yes absolutely, Channels do eat bluegill and smaller bass. Thats a FACT!

Agree with Big Pond, if your goal is big bass take the cats out. I have them in my pond and love to fish for them and eat them.

Channel cats are definetly predatory. Depending on the size of your pond and the number of cats they may not make enough of a difference to worry about. But, at some size they will endanger larger bass. I am guessing that channel cats nocturnal foraging would allow them to eat a few LMB, which are sedintary at night.
