Pond Boss Forums AERATION Should I aerate? When stop or reduce Aerating / When are cold mos?

I have read that is not as necessary to aerate during the cold mos. I am a new pond owner. We have BG and LMB and started fertilization and aeration about 8/1/09 of this year. we are also feeding the BG. We put 600 PK shrimp in about 3 weeks ago. We want spawns again of possible, but know that with the cool nights the aeration will bring the temp down sooner. Last nite it was 45 at our pond and we are still aerating 24/7. When should we go to partial and / or turn aeration off? The pond is a bout an acre and avg of 4 feet deep right now.

Typically everything in the pond slows down in the water when temps hit around 50 degrees F. What I mean is that oxygen is not consumed as quickly in colder temperatures and at the same time colder temperatures hold more oxygen.

In your case, I would keep aerating until at least 50 and then back off to 6 hrs a day once temps in the water reach 50. In 4 feet of water and air temps of 47, that might be pretty soon.

I will be driving through AL next week, going from Memphis to Panama City. Where are you located in AL?

Our place is in Cedar Bluff, AL on Lookout Mountain. We have been working on getting it full. It was full last winter and max depth is 10 feet.
